Frequently Asked Questions

Who do you tutor?

I work with struggling readers and spellers with suspected or identified Dyslexia, ADHD, and Autism. The majority of my students are between 5-12 years old, but I am able to work with students as young as 3.5 and up to 18 years old.

What are your tutoring rates?

In-person tutoring sessions are $88/hour. In-person tutoring sessions are held in the comforts of your home or at a nearby library. Rates include customized lesson planning, materials used, reserved weekly schedule, session notes, and car-related costs such as travel time, vehicle wear and tear, and gasoline.

Online sessions via Zoom/KoalaGo are $75/hour. Students will receive the same, high-quality instruction as in-person tutoring. Online tutoring rates include customized planning, digital materials used, reserved weekly schedule, and session notes.

What areas do you provide in-person tutoring?

I provide in-person tutoring if you live within 5 miles from me. This may include Anaheim (west of the 5), Buena Park, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, North Huntington Beach, Huntington Harbor, Stanton, and Westminster. If your city is not listed and you'd like in-person tutoring, we can find a community setting between us to meet.

I'm not sure if online tutoring will work for my child. Can you drive out to my location instead?

I completely understand the hesitation with online tutoring. Many parents and students had a difficult time doing online school during COVID. Online tutoring is not the same as online school. Online tutoring only occurs for a short amount of time (30-90 minutes once or twice per week) rather than the 7 hours a day, 5 days per week your child had to be online for school.

Online tutoring provides both the student and tutor the flexibility of learning in any location, including at home, in the car, in a hotel room on vacation, and even in another country (yes! I've had students do online sessions in these locations in the past). It also provides both of us the opportunity to jump on a session even with illnesses. I've done plenty of online sessions while sick with the flu or COVID and did not have to worry about passing on the illness at all. This also means that we are able to maintain consistency with tutoring, without having to worry about finding a time that works for both of us to schedule a make up session.

Online tutoring opens up a wealth of resources that are quickly and easily accessible. Your child wants to read about a very specific topic such as the Shoebill Stork? I can quickly pull up an encyclopedia or article about it, tailor it to your child's reading level, and practice reading fluency and comprehension within a few minutes.

Your child will receive the same high-quality instruction that they would in person because they are receiving the instruction from the same person: me. I am confident that I am able to provide instruction to the same degree online that I would in person. Whiteboards, physical books, computer screens, and e-books are all materials that support instruction, not the instruction itself. I am still able to pick up on student cues, provide brain breaks when needed, and challenge your child just as I would in person.

Online tutoring is much more cost effective in the long-term. Currently, my rates are lower for online tutoring compared to in-person tutoring because I do not have to consider the extra cost of travel time, gasoline, and wear and tear on my car.

The majority of students are able to adapt to online sessions and improve their reading, spelling, and writing skills this way! If you are hesitant, I encourage you to try it out, even for a short amount of time.

What learning platform do you use for online tutoring?

I currently use KoalaGo and Zoom for online tutoring sessions. To learn more about KoalaGo, see this guide: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mEh56jpEXYICLSW1DX2fe8ppxVFEjIah/view

How much tutoring time do you recommend?

In order to make adequate progress with tutoring, I recommend 2 weekly tutoring sessions. Young students may require 30 minute sessions, while older students may be able to handle 60-90 minute sessions. We will discuss tutoring time during our 15-minute phone call, as well as after our Meet & Greet to determine the most effective plan for your child.

Do you accept Charter funds?

I am currently an approved Vendor with Suncoast Prepatory Academy, Elite Academic Academy, Sage Oak Charter Schools, and Harmony Educational Services. I'd love to help you on your homeschool journey! Many Charter schools require parents to put in a request for a Vendor. Please let me know if you'd like me to partner with a Charter, and we can work together to get approval!

Do you offer summer tutoring?

Yes, I offer summer tutoring! Summer tutoring can be an extension of the current school year or more intensive (3-5 days/week). We can discuss over the phone what will work best for your child.

Do you offer group tutoring?

Please check back for group tutoring cohorts and other information at a future date.
